Maybe the pic doesn't do it justice - but it looks like one of those "first bike" jap 250 cruisers to me. The headlight, instrument binnicle and handlebars combination looks awful.

Black SuperStorm, shortie TORs, wilbers +10mm shocks, Hagon progressive fork springs, Harrison Billet 6 pots.

This was already posted in the cruiser update thread in the lounge. I probably want to see a 1200 speedy more than anyone, but to me that thing isn't remotely close. Look closely.....it appears to me to just be the new bobber. The rear ties is the same, not big like the speedy/america, spokes unlike them, bobber/bonnie tank rather than the larger different shaped tank, and a cruiser with no rake ? What makes that thing a cruiser? It even appears the same size as the bobber/bonnies. The speedy/americas were 100 Lbs heavier and larger than the bonnies and variants. If this is anything like the final product it appears it's going to be a bobber with a different seat for the most part. No thanks. I kinda like the bobber, but i prefer a cruiser and to me i see nothing in that pic that say cruiser. maybe the pegs are a little forward, but that alone doesn't make a cruiser. It reminds me of what ducati did with the diavel, they took a sport bike and lowered the seat and changed the peg position and called it a cruiser.

Yeah, looks like a bobber in disguise...added rear fender, passenger seat for the honey, etc. No appeal and too cramped looking. If I'm riding nonstop 3-4 hours, I like to stretch my legs (drape them over the foot pegs). The whole setup w/ highway pegs looks awfully uncomfortable to me. That guy looks like a jockey.

Right. The spoke wheels breakaway from SM tradition, Could be a fake (or photoshop project :)

Funny u mentioned that, i thought i was the only one who does that. At least i never see others doing it, but i do that all the time on the freeway.

I read the article and the writer thinks that there are a few things on this bike that are after market for the demonstration ride. The Highway pegs are way too high to be comfortable, the passenger backrest, handlebars , things like that. I'm looking forward to seeing the released bike....but then I'm like that, don't necessarily want one, just like all the new stuff on them. Who knows until you see one in the flesh as it were?...That 1200 motor in there has gotta be good stuff.

yeah, me too but i bet my nuts they will either have different versions with one that has regular bars or maybe shit can those altogether.

But yeah, that 1200 engine is what has me excited. By all reports it's a killer...... quiet as a mouse, (HUUUUUUUUGE one for me after owning my current rattle trap!!!) has great power and torque for it's size and MPG it shouldn't be capable of. Not to mention no 2 hour surgery to replace the plugs and probably easy do it yourself shim changes. I'm salivating just describing it !

Don't. Really, Brutus has been a revelation for me. Favorite bike ever, and my first was in 1969. I love my Tbird to death. I really do. But it has 2 flaws that i can't get past easily, one i can't at all. One, the noise that bothers me horribly at times. And 2, the cost which due to my financial state which is likely my end state, makes it tough for me. But of all the bikes i've owned, regardless of all things that have me looking at trading, I love my Tbird. I really do. 8 years later i still look at her when i get off her and walk away because shes so perfect looking. And aside from the noise, the ride is still wonderful as it's ever been. I LOVE this bike. But there are reasons i need to change. The noise, the cost, the work. I will miss it when that time comes and i'm pretty sure there will come a time i will wish i never sold it. But life moves on and things change like it or not. It may happen soon or it may take a year or 3, i don't know because i have little control over my financial situation any more. But i feel it won't be long. I'm hanging on for now. A 1200 speedmaster would just rectify the issues i have with the Tbird. Mainly a bike i will be able to hang on to till die and be able to maintain and afford. And be done with that god forsaken clanging noise !!!! Life deals you certain cards and you just have to live with that. But i will be incredibly sad to see her go. It actually scares me thinking about it...

I've been talking about a 1200 speedmaster for a couple of years now for the wife so the waiting is there. What I was waiting on was a 2011 or later with the 1200cc engine.

Not really Did you go for the sister only because of bigger tits (hp). lol

This is interesting...the 2010 Thunderbird 1700 (non ABS) and Rocket Roadster w/ ABS retail approx. same value (according to KBB).

If I had my way, I would have both bikes....
A new Rocket 3 Roadster here is 28.500 ride away...the Storm is 23.500 I'm thinking...
Tits have nothing to do with it! well, almost nothing..The nice butt always takes my attention!! ...have you seen the rear end on the roadster?
Feet under me is easier on my back...that's a biggie for me.

My Late Dad used to say: "If it's got either tits or tyres (tires), you're gonna have trouble with it"!; but there's surely no good reason on this Earth why you couldn't (shouldn't), have both if you wanted them!

THat's why I've got my Byrd and two Indians!

A priority for sure...glad you found a bike that helps!

When I visited a dealer the other day, looked (again) at a Rocket Roadster and left with the same impression. I can't get pass the 240/50 tire (200 is big enough...especially for twisties), the square looking fuel tank and 3 prong exhaust manifold. One can pick apart the Thunderbird too but that's my takeaway. As far as HP...a Rocket plus but more than I'd need in a 'cruiser'.

I would like to add to the stable (Thunderbird and Sears bikes) a cross country bagger and crotch rocket if Dave gifts me the money

Given equal (half decent) riders, the Rocket will leave the Thunderbird for dead in the twisties - fat tyre or not - by nature of having far more ground-clearance.

I said nothing about Thunderbird vs. Rocket in the twisties but a 200 size tire is big enough for canyon carving! It appears the industry standard for muscle bike sport tires is 190 width (like Yamaha R1 and Hayabusa). I also said Thunderbird is a 'cruiser'. If you want to talk about leaving a bike for dead in the twisties... I'd race something other than the Thunderbird, Rocket or supercharged Bird for that matter.

So??? Neither one of them are exactly sport bikes and I'm not even sure I agree. Depends on the rider. I've seen Gold Wings pass people on serious mountain curves like they were standing still.

A lot of people ask me how heavy the r3 is...while it is around 360 kg, the motor is low slung an quite well forward which helps with throwing it around, but it is a big bike and therefore smaller more nimble bikes will and should leave it behind in the twisties....depending on the riders of course and the size of the nuts on those riders!!....come the straight bits and shes right there!!
I feel real comfy on it...more so than on a Daytona or something similar.
The Storm was like a chair but the pegs kept grinding in the corners...the Rocket I have hit the ground only once with the peg...in a bumpy corner too....but that's cool...I still love those Storms!!

I test rode the Roadster when they came out (remember when Triumph had demo trucks ) and if I had to go with another Triumph that would be it.

Figures. I really think the pic is not remotely what the cruiser would be. I mean, twins instead of mono means it'll probably be an entirely different frame while the pic is obviously the bobber for the most part. But it begs the question, how is this a speedmaster mule if theres nothing different from the bobber cept seat/pegs/bars? Yeah, headlight, whatever, but i'm talking differences that make them truly different bikes. Simply changing the seat and ergos doesn't come remotely close to being a speedmaster or any triumph cruiser as we know them. Seems the only thing they could be testing assuming they know the seat will be that height is the peg/seat/bar positioning. So looks like maybe using a bobber to test ergos for a speedmaster? I dunno, this whole thing seems wacky to me. Anyways, the twin shocks is a good indication the final bike won't be anything like the bobber in the pic, so thats potential good news. You gonna make a sections on the forum for it Thanassis?
